Hotpoint Refrigerator F6 Error Code
The defrost thermistor is not reading properly, often causing the refrigerator to stay in defrost mode too long and not cool.
Common causes
- Failed defrost thermistor
- Wiring issue to thermistor
- Control board problem
How to fix it
- Unplug refrigerator for 30 seconds, then plug back in to reset.
- Check if the defrost heater is on (visible glow) and evaporator fan runs after defrost.
- If the fridge still not cooling, test the defrost thermistor with a multimeter (should read around 11k ohms at 50°F).
⚠ When to call a pro: If the thermistor reads out of range or steps do not resolve, call a technician as the control board may be faulty.
